Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has condemned the latest attack in Benue State that left 11 people dead.
The attack occurred in Ayilamo, Logo Local Government Area, where four police officers and seven civilians were killed by suspected armed attackers. The police confirmed the casualties following the incident.
Reacting in a post on X on Saturday, Obi said it was painful that killings in Benue continued despite repeated attacks on communities in the state.
He condoled with the victims’ families and called on the Federal Government and security agencies to urgently bring those responsible to justice and prevent further attacks.
Obi said every Nigerian life should be protected regardless of ethnicity, religion, or occupation.
“Whether the victim is a farmer, a child, a police officer, a soldier, a Christian, a Muslim, or a person of any ethnic group, every Nigerian life has equal value,” he said.
The former Anambra State governor also recalled his recent visit to Benue, where he said he attempted to visit families affected by the violence in Yelwata.
He urged authorities to stop the recurring attacks, stressing that Nigeria must do more to protect its citizens.
