People Are Dying’ — Ogala Slams N150m Campaign Billboard Cost

The governorship candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in Abia State, Doris Ogala, has criticized the N150 million fee imposed on candidates for campaign billboards ahead of the 2027 elections.

Ogala, in a video circulating on X, questioned the rationale behind the charge, stating that she lacks access to illicit funds or political backing to afford such costs.

The Abia State Signage and Advertising Agency (ABSSAA) had earlier announced fees of N200 million for presidential candidates and N150 million for governorship candidates seeking to use advertising spaces across the state.

Reacting, Ogala described the policy as insensitive, citing economic hardship and unpaid salaries in the state.

“People are dying in hospitals. Workers have not been paid, yet you are asking for N150 million for billboards. Where will I get the money?” she said.

She further challenged the policy, declaring that she would resist any attempt to enforce it and suggested that candidates may be forced to campaign without billboards.
