A chieftain of the Accord Party in Osun State, Olalekan Ajagungbade, popularly known as Emir, has been shot dead during a clash over control of a motor park in Ile-Ife.
Ajagungbade was reportedly attacked during a meeting with some transport workers around Mayfair in Ile-Ife on Sunday.
A security source said the incident followed a leadership dispute involving Ajagungbade’s group and a rival faction. He was reportedly shot in the head during the confrontation.
The violence later spread to other parts of Ife, while gunshots were also reportedly heard in some areas of Osogbo, the state capital.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, reacting to the incident, ordered the immediate arrest of everyone involved in the killing.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor described the incident as allegedly arising from a park leadership tussle and directed security agencies to restore peace in affected areas.
Adeleke also ordered the immediate vacation of motor parks by the warring groups and announced plans to reintroduce a Park Management System across the state.
He warned that anyone found responsible for the killing would be brought to justice, urging residents to remain calm.
The Osun State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the killing at the time of filing this report.
