Erling Haaland scored the winner as 10-man Manchester City defeated Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday to maintain their perfect Premier League start under Enzo Maresca.
City were reduced to 10 men in the 23rd minute when Phil Foden was shown a straight red card for kicking out at United captain Bruno Fernandes.
United struggled to make their numerical advantage count, with Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo both hitting the post.
Haaland broke the deadlock in the 60th minute, sweeping home Josko Gvardiol’s deflected cross.
The goal was initially ruled offside but was awarded after a VAR review found Haaland to be onside and Enzo Fernandez, who was also in an offside position, not to have interfered with play.
Gianluigi Donnarumma then made a crucial late save to deny Bryan Mbeumo as City held on for a memorable derby victory.
The win gives City 12 points from four matches, level with leaders Arsenal on points. United remain on four points after four games.
