Gunmen have kidnapped a 60-year-old headmaster, Kolawale Mathew Owoade, in Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State, demanding a ransom of N30 million for his release.
Owoade, who heads the Nomadic Basic School in Igbojaye, was abducted on Saturday evening, July 11, 2026, between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., while returning from his farm in Budo Aare.
According to his son, Abiola Owoade, the kidnappers contacted the family shortly after the incident using the victim’s mobile phone to demand the ransom. A search team later recovered his motorcycle abandoned in a nearby bush on Sunday morning.
Family members have appealed to security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Police, Department of State Services, Amotekun Corps, and local vigilantes, to intensify efforts to secure his release.
The incident has sparked concern among colleagues and members of the local education community.
Confirming the abduction, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the victim was kidnapped at his farm and assured that efforts were underway to rescue him and apprehend the perpetrators.
The latest incident comes amid ongoing security challenges in the state, despite recent successes by joint security forces in rescuing abducted schoolchildren in Oyo.
