The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, with more than 80 per cent of candidates scoring at least five credits.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by NECO’s Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, during a press briefing at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
Prof. Wushishi said candidates can check their results on NECO’s official website using their examination registration numbers.
According to him, 16 subjects were examined, and 96,979 candidates registered for the examination. This included 51,823 males and 45,156 females. Out of those registered, 95,160 candidates actually sat for the exams.
In English Language, 93,425 candidates took the paper, and 78.32 per cent of them scored a credit or higher. For Mathematics, 93,330 candidates sat for the exam, with 91.35 per cent achieving credit and above.
Overall, 68,166 candidates, representing 71.63 per cent, scored five credits and above, including English and Mathematics. In addition, 82,082 candidates, or 86.26 per cent, scored five credits and above regardless of whether they passed English and Mathematics.
On examination malpractice, Prof. Wushishi said 9,016 candidates were caught for different forms of misconduct. This figure shows an increase of 31.7 per cent compared to 6,160 cases recorded in 2024.
He also revealed that five exam supervisors were recommended for blacklisting for helping candidates cheat. These supervisors were from the FCT, Kano, Adamawa, and Ondo States.
In addition, four examination centres—two in Niger State and one each in Yobe and Kano—were recommended for withdrawal of recognition after being linked to widespread malpractice.
The SSCE External examination is mainly for private candidates who are not in regular secondary schools. NECO conducts the exam to help candidates who missed the internal examination or want to improve their previous results.
