Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has claimed that Senate President Godswill Akpabio and billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote contacted him during the Osun governorship election and asked him to delete his posts on X.
Davido made the claim in an interview with News Central TV on Tuesday, days after his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, won the August 15 governorship election.
The singer said he was monitoring polling-unit results and posting updates on X when he received calls from influential figures urging him to take down some of his posts.
“I heard the Senate President was trying to call the collation center… They were calling me to delete,” Davido said, adding that Dangote also called him.
He said he refused to delete the posts until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the final result.
Davido also alleged that more than ₦110 billion was brought into Osun State in an attempt to influence the election through vote-buying.
“I just confirmed today. They spent N110 billion,” he said, adding that his camp did not spend money on election day and instead relied on voters to protect their ballots.
INEC declared Adeleke of the Accord Party winner with 511,067 votes, defeating APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes, a margin of 66,252 votes.
Davido said the outcome showed that popular support could overcome financial and political influence.
“My uncle should be an example to all other government officials and governors. When you stand by the people, the people will stand by you,” he said.
The claims about the alleged ₦110 billion spending and calls from Akpabio and Dangote have not been independently established in the reports reviewed.
