Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has called on United States President Donald Trump and the international community to pay close attention to the August 15 Osun State governorship election.
Davido made the appeal in a post on X on Tuesday, expressing concern over rising political tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation and disruption of the electoral process.
He urged relevant authorities to ensure that voters can exercise their constitutional rights freely and safely, while stressing the need for a peaceful, transparent and credible election.
“We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election,” Davido said.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed August 15 for the Osun governorship poll and says it is prepared to conduct a free, fair and credible election. The commission said more than 2.3 million registered voters are expected to participate across the state’s 30 local government areas.
Davido’s appeal comes days before the election, amid heightened political activity and concerns over security ahead of the poll.
