Security operatives in Ekiti State have rescued worshippers abducted during an attack on a Christ Apostolic Church in Eda-Oniyo, Ilejemeje Local Government Area, though one victim was confirmed dead.
The victims were kidnapped on April 28, 2026, when gunmen stormed the church premises during a service.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, the Ekiti State Police Command said the rescue followed sustained intelligence-led operations carried out in collaboration with the military, Amotekun Corps, local hunters, and other security agencies.
According to the police, the rescued victims have been taken to a medical facility for examination and treatment.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, commended the joint efforts of security agencies and stakeholders, as well as the Ekiti State Government, for its support in ensuring the success of the operation.
He also appreciated residents for providing timely information and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, assuring that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.
