The Senate has ordered an investigation into Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft maintenance funding and the condition of military aircraft following a crash in Igbokoda, Ondo State, that killed 25 people.

The resolution followed a motion sponsored by Senator Osita Ngwu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Air Force, during plenary on Tuesday.
The NAF ATR-42 aircraft, with tail number NGR 931, crashed on October 5, 2026, while on a routine mission from Benin City to Lagos.
Lawmakers expressed concern over recurring military aircraft accidents, raising questions about maintenance practices, aging fleets, and compliance with aviation safety standards.
The Senate directed its committees on Air Force and Aviation to visit the crash site, engage NAF authorities, and audit the serviceability and airworthiness of aircraft in the presidential and military fleets.
It also urged the Federal Government to prioritize funding for regular aircraft maintenance and the replacement of aging fleets.
The Senate further called on the NAF and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) to investigate the immediate and underlying causes of the crash and make their findings public.
