Obi Seeks Stronger Nigeria-Canada Ties

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has called for stronger ties between Nigeria and Canada following a meeting with the Canadian High Commissioner, Pasquale Salvaggio.

Obi disclosed this on Tuesday after visiting the Canadian High Commission in Nigeria at the invitation of the mission.

He said discussions with Salvaggio and his team covered Nigeria’s forthcoming elections, democratic reforms, trade and investment, economic development, education, and measures to increase women’s participation in politics.

Obi stressed that a peaceful, stable and prosperous Nigeria would be in Canada’s strategic interest, adding that good governance would create opportunities for deeper economic and diplomatic cooperation between both countries.

He also called for stronger democratic institutions and greater citizen participation, saying every Nigerian should have a meaningful opportunity to contribute to governance.

Obi expressed hope for continued engagement with Canada’s diplomatic and business communities to promote a more prosperous, secure and inclusive Nigeria.
