Presidential hopeful Peter Obi has expressed fears for his safety ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections, stating that he may not be alive to contest due to what he described as sustained pressure on his activities.
Obi made the remarks during an interview on With Chude, hosted by media personality Chude Jideonwo, excerpts of which were shared online on Wednesday.
When asked about his chances of running in 2027, the former Anambra State governor said his concern went beyond securing a party ticket. “Not even a candidate. I might not even be alive,” he said, alleging that the government was deliberately frustrating his personal and professional engagements.
Obi clarified that he was not making a direct accusation but claimed he faces frequent obstacles in his daily activities, which he believes point to targeted interference.
He also alleged a broader pattern of pressure on opposition figures, saying some supporters now avoid associating with him publicly for fear of repercussions.
Citing a recent incident, Obi claimed officials locked his vehicle at an airport while leaving others untouched, describing it as part of ongoing harassment.
As of the time of reporting, the Federal Government has not issued a response to the allegations.
