No Ransom, No Negotiation — Lawal Takes Hard Line on Bandits

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has revealed that bandits kidnapped his brothers in 2019 and demanded a ransom of ₦300 million.

Speaking in Abuja on Thursday, the governor said he refused to pay, stressing that giving in to ransom demands only fuels further kidnappings.

Lawal maintained that his stance against negotiating with bandits remains firm, despite the personal cost.

“If we continue paying ransoms, we are encouraging them to kidnap more people,” he said.

The governor also reiterated his commitment to tackling insecurity, noting that he is willing to support the establishment and funding of state police to combat criminal activities more effectively.
