Nigeria’s Super Falcons have missed out on automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup following a 1-0 loss to Cameroon in their WAFCON 2026 quarter-final clash.
A 19th-minute goal by Nyadjou proved decisive, while Cameroon goalkeeper Michaely Bihina delivered a standout performance with multiple saves to deny Nigeria an equaliser.
Despite creating several chances, the Falcons were unable to break through Cameroon’s defence, ending their hopes of reaching the semi-finals, the stage that guarantees direct World Cup qualification for African teams.
As one of the quarter-final losers, Nigeria will now compete in the African play-offs alongside three other teams. The winner will advance to the inter-confederation play-offs for a final chance to qualify.
The 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup will be hosted in Brazil.
