NCDC Isolates Two Suspected Ebola Cases in North-East Nigeria

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has identified two suspected cases of Ebola disease in Nigeria’s North-East region, with both individuals placed in isolation.

The agency disclosed this in an update on Saturday, October 31, 2026, saying laboratory tests were ongoing to determine whether the individuals had contracted the virus.

It added that health officials were identifying and listing people who might have come into contact with the suspected cases.

However, the NCDC stressed that the cases were not confirmed infections, noting that only laboratory results could establish their status.

The agency urged Nigerians to maintain proper hand hygiene, practice good sanitation, and follow public health guidelines.

The development comes 11 days after Nigeria confirmed its first Ebola case in more than a decade involving a 42-year-old woman who travelled from Uganda and tested positive for the Bundibugyo strain of the virus in Abuja.

The patient and her husband were subsequently evacuated to Switzerland for further medical care and monitoring.

The NCDC has yet to disclose the states where the two suspected cases were identified or establish any link between them and the earlier confirmed infection.
