Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, has strengthened her lead in the presidential election of the Nigerian Bar Association, bringing her closer to becoming the association’s first elected female president.
As of 7:30pm on Saturday, official figures from the Electoral Committee portal showed Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya polling 10,554 votes (46.16%), maintaining a clear lead over her closest rival, Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, who secured 7,020 votes (30.70%). Olumuyiwa Akinboro followed with 5,289 votes (23.13%).
A total of 22,863 votes had been counted, with Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya leading by more than 3,500 votes. Earlier results released in the morning also showed her in front, indicating a consistent lead throughout the day.
The winner will succeed the current NBA President, Afam Osigwe.
The election comes amid recent concerns over transparency. Osigwe had dismissed allegations of interference, stating that the Electoral Committee operates independently and that claims of manipulation remain unproven.
Meanwhile, human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju praised the process, noting that the NBA’s electronic voting system was fast and secure. He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to adopt similar technology, describing the exercise as proof that credible e-voting is achievable in Nigeria.
Although final results are still pending, current tallies suggest the race is increasingly tilting in Badejo-Okusanya’s favor.
