A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, to a cumulative 75 years imprisonment over the diversion of public funds amounting to about N33.8 billion.

The conviction followed a prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which charged the former minister with multiple counts of money laundering and conspiracy.
According to the anti-graft agency, the offences were linked to funds allocated for the Zungeru and Mambilla hydroelectric power projects, key components of Nigeria’s power sector development.
The court’s judgment represents a significant turn in the case, which had earlier progressed past a no-case submission stage, with the court compelling Mamman to enter his defence.
With the verdict, the court found him guilty on several counts, culminating in the lengthy prison sentence.
