Money Laundering Case: Bodejo Walks Free on N2bn Bail

The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail of N2 billion to Bello Bodejo, the National President of Miyetti Allah Kauta Kore, over alleged money laundering involving $2.63 million.

Justice Inyang Ekwo ruled on Monday that Bodejo must provide two sureties in like sum. One surety must be an Abuja resident with three years of tax clearance, while the other must own landed property in Abuja valued at N2 billion.

The court also ordered Bodejo to surrender his international passport and barred him from traveling outside Nigeria without permission.

In granting bail, the judge held that the charges are bailable under the law and that the court has discretion to grant such relief.

Bodejo had earlier pleaded not guilty to the charges filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which accused him of laundering about $2.63 million.

He was initially remanded in EFCC custody following his arraignment on July 9.

The case has been adjourned to October 5, 6, and 7 for the commencement of trial.
