Protesters on Sunday blocked the busy Mokwa-Bida highway in Niger State, leaving dozens of commuters stranded and halting movement along the major route.
The demonstration, driven by growing concerns over insecurity in the area, saw residents barricade all entry points into Mokwa, according to witnesses.
Travellers reported being stuck on the road for several hours, with some saying the disruption began late Saturday night.
A protester, Saliu Mohammed, alleged that suspected bandits recently abducted about 15 people in the community, though the claim has not been independently verified. He accused security agencies of failing to rescue the victims and said the protest would continue until action is taken.
Commuters expressed frustration over the situation. Joy Amaechi, who was travelling from Ilorin to Abuja, said she had been stranded for over five hours and called for urgent government intervention.
Similarly, a commercial driver, Henry Nwachukwu, said he arrived at Mokwa early Sunday but remained unable to proceed as of mid-morning.
Authorities have yet to issue an official response, as residents continue to demand improved security and the safe return of the alleged victims.
