Military Aircraft Crashes Near Ondo Naval Base

The Federal Government has confirmed that 32 people were on board a military aircraft that crashed near the Naval Base in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Monday.

The aircraft, with tail number NGR 931, was travelling from Benin to Lagos when it disappeared from radar at about 9:13 a.m., according to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.

Keyamo said air traffic controllers were unable to re-establish radio contact with the aircraft before it was confirmed to have crashed near the naval base.

He said preliminary information showed that 25 passengers and seven crew members were on board.

The wreckage has been located, while search and rescue operations are ongoing. Keyamo also said he had spoken with the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, and pledged the ministry’s support for the rescue efforts.

The minister said further details would be released as they become available.
