Mbappé Makes History, Powers France to 3–1 Win Over Senegal

Kylian Mbappé set a new milestone for France national football team on Tuesday, becoming the country’s all-time leading scorer in a 3–1 victory over Senegal national football team in their opening fixture of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The forward netted his 58th international goal in the 66th minute, moving past Olivier Giroud to claim the record.

France endured a difficult opening phase, struggling to find rhythm and also seeing a penalty appeal involving Mbappé dismissed despite a VAR review.

Momentum shifted in the second half, with Mbappé breaking the deadlock before Bradley Barcola extended the lead in the 82nd minute with a composed finish.

Senegal, who created several chances earlier in the contest, eventually reduced the deficit through Ibrahim Mbaye in stoppage time. However, Mbappé quickly restored France’s advantage moments later, sealing the result and marking a historic personal achievement.
