The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), governorship candidate in Kwara State, Suleiman Bolakale Kawu, has condemned the removal of his campaign billboards by the Kwara State Signage and Advertisement Agency (KWASAA).
The agency on Wednesday removed two of Kawu’s billboards at Adabata Junction and a public water facility at Bata Shop, Agaka, in Ilorin.
KWASAA said the billboards violated signage regulations and environmental standards, with one allegedly erected on a road and the other mounted on government property without the required approval.
The agency’s General Manager, Toba Adeyeye, said the enforcement followed complaints from residents and insisted that KWASAA was not targeting opposition parties.
He said the agency had a responsibility to regulate outdoor advertising and protect public infrastructure.
Kawu, however, described the removal as a disturbing display of intolerance towards political competition.
He said that if the action was politically motivated, it would amount to an abuse of administrative power and an attempt to suppress opposition voices.
The PDP candidate urged Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to compete with political opponents through ideas, programs, and performance rather than administrative measures.
KWASAA had previously warned political parties and aspirants to obtain the necessary approvals before displaying campaign billboards ahead of the 2027 elections.
