FG Pays Lecturers’ Eight-Month Tools Allowance

The Federal Government has released the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance, CATA, to academic staff in federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education for January to August 2026.

The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, announced this on Wednesday after inaugurating the Ministerial Committee on Accreditation.

Alausa said the payment was made in line with the 2025 Federal Government–Academic Staff Union of Universities (FGN-ASUU) agreement.

He said all affected institutions had been notified to begin disbursing the allowance to eligible academic staff.

CATA is designed to support lecturers with expenses related to academic activities, including teaching, research, internet access, conferences, journal publications, and academic books.

The minister added that payment of the corresponding allowance to non-academic staff was being processed and could be released in the coming weeks.

Alausa said the development reflected President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to improving the welfare of staff and investing in infrastructure across the education sector.
