The Kano State Police Command has restricted movement in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area ahead of Saturday’s by-election for the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency.
The restriction will take effect from 12:00am to 5:00pm on Saturday, September 19, 2026, the command said in a statement issued by its spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna.
Only people on essential duties, including INEC officials, accredited journalists and observers, medical personnel, and firefighters, will be allowed to move within the area during the restriction.
The police also barred security aides and escorts attached to VIPs, political office holders, and government officials from accompanying them to polling units and collation centers.
Vigilante groups, quasi-security outfits, and voluntary organizations have also been excluded from the election security arrangement.
The command warned against the possession of weapons, vote-buying, vote-selling, and political canvassing around polling units, saying violators would be arrested and prosecuted.
It said personnel and operational assets had been deployed to polling units, registration area centers, collation centers, and identified flashpoints across the local government.
INEC has scheduled the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency by-election for September 19 alongside legislative by-elections in Gombe, Bauchi, and Delta states. Voting is scheduled for 8:30am to 2:30pm.
The police urged political parties, candidates, and their supporters to comply with the Electoral Act and maintain peace before, during, and after the election.
