The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is planning to establish a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) center in Ottawa, Canada, with operations expected to begin in 2027.

The proposed center will allow eligible Nigerians in Canada and other parts of North America to sit for the UTME without travelling to Nigeria solely for the examination.
JAMB disclosed this following a visit by its Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, to the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa.
The board said the initiative would make the examination more accessible to Nigerians in the diaspora seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
JAMB said the Ottawa Centre was part of its efforts to expand access to Nigerian tertiary education globally and strengthen ties between Nigerians abroad and the country’s education system.
“For Nigerians in Canada, the UTME is coming closer to home,” the board said.
The proposed center is expected to reduce the cost and logistical challenges faced by Nigerians in North America who currently need to travel to Nigeria to take the examination.
