A senior commander of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), identified as Abu Hassan, has reportedly been killed during a failed attack on Cross Kauwa in Borno State.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the development on Sunday via a post on X, citing intelligence sources.
According to the report, Abu Hassan, described as a key ISWAP Qaid operating from the Tumbunma axis, was among the commanders leading the assault when he was killed in the ensuing confrontation.
An unidentified foreign fighter believed to be of Arab origin was also reported killed, while another ISWAP commander, Aliyi Zabarmari, sustained a gunshot wound that resulted in a fractured thigh.
Sources further indicated that another foreign fighter remains missing following the failed operation.
Security officials described the incident as a significant setback for ISWAP, noting that those affected were key field commanders involved in coordinating attacks across the Lake Chad region.
