IGP Disu Promises Professional Police Conduct in 2027 Elections

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has assured Nigerians that police officers will conduct themselves professionally before, during and after the 2027 general elections.

Disu gave the assurance in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, after the launch of a book documenting the history of women in the Nigeria Police Force.

He said the police had held a conference with commissioners of police and other senior officers to review experiences from previous elections and identify areas for improvement.

“We have now brought all these experiences together, where we did well and where we did not do well, so that we can perform better in this big election,” he said.

The IGP also praised the book’s 96-year-old author, retired Deputy Commissioner of Police Dame Stella Okuyiga, one of the first 20 women to join the force in 1955.

Disu said the police would acquire copies of the book for training institutions to preserve the force’s history and inspire future generations of female officers.

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Dagogo Wokama, launched the book with a donation of N20 million.

Okuyiga said the publication would preserve her experiences and ensure that her legacy continued to inspire future generations.
