A Mapo Grade A Customary Court in Ibadan has sentenced a 50-year-old woman, Bolanle Adeyemo, to one year in prison for possessing and presenting a forged marriage certificate during divorce proceedings.

The court convicted Adeyemo after she pleaded guilty to unlawful possession and forgery. She was given the option of one month of community service instead of imprisonment and was discharged on a separate conspiracy charge.
The forged certificate was submitted as evidence after her husband, Adeboye Adeyemo, filed for divorce. He challenged the document, prompting the court to order a police investigation.
Investigators later confirmed that the Ibadan North Local Government registry named on the certificate had never issued the document, establishing that it was fake.
The offences violated provisions of the Oyo State Criminal Code relating to forgery and unlawful possession of forged documents.
