Nigerian singer Mayorkun has revealed that he panicked after Afrobeats star Davido stopped communicating with him for two weeks, shortly after he quit his banking job in anticipation of joining the singer’s record label.
Mayorkun, whose real name is Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, shared the experience during a recent episode of the Afropolitan podcast.
He said Davido had promised to sign him after watching a video of him singing online but went silent after Mayorkun left his banking job, leaving him uncertain about his future.
According to the singer, he turned to prayer and began attending church, hoping for divine intervention.
He recalled that shortly after leading a praise and worship session at church one day, Davido sent him a WhatsApp message asking him to pack his belongings and move into his house.
Mayorkun described the timing of the message as a testimony, saying he had not even returned to his seat when it arrived.
