‘I Want to Enjoy Nigeria in 2031’ — Remi Tinubu

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has said Nigerians who fail to recognise the country’s progress need what she described as “Bola Tinubu eyeglasses”.

She made the remark on Friday while inaugurating the Abuja headquarters of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, a grassroots group mobilising support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

“Things are happening in Nigeria, except those who don’t see; maybe we’ll give them some Bola Tinubu eyeglasses. We are doing that, Jigi-Bola,” she said.

Mrs Tinubu referenced the Jigi-Bola eye-care initiative introduced by her husband during his tenure as Lagos State governor. The program provides eye screening, eyeglasses and surgery.

She also cited improvements at Nigerian airports as evidence of progress, saying she hoped to travel more quickly.

The First Lady said she looked forward to leaving the Presidential Villa in 2031 and enjoying a better Nigeria in her 70s.

She subsequently commissioned the movement’s Abuja headquarters and expressed support for her husband’s 2027 re-election bid and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The event and remarks were also reported by TheCable and Punch, which confirmed that the First Lady linked the comments to perceived progress under the administration and referenced changes at Nigerian airports.
