Gunmen Kill Pastor, Three Others, Injure Eight in Benue Attack

Four people, including a pastor, have been killed and eight others injured after gunmen attacked Abeda Shitile community in Gaambe-Tiev, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

The attack occurred around 5pm on Tuesday, during the community’s market day, as traders and residents were preparing to return home.

A community leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the attackers opened fire on residents and operated for more than two hours, forcing people to flee for safety.

He said the gunmen began their attack around a Point-of-Sale (POS) shop owned by Ernest Atindi Tor in the Ikyô Tor Dukur area before moving towards the motor park along Afia Road.

The deceased were identified as Msoo Chan, Pastor Terungwa Tyonungo, Suurshater Iornumbe, and Dodo Shingir.

The eight injured victims were identified as Kumater Awua, Miracle Gangera, Tsetim Terungwa, Iortyom Helen, Seember Aondongu, Kofi Aondosoo, Chuku Okoro, and Orker Iortyom.

Their remains have reportedly been deposited at a local mortuary, while the injured are receiving treatment at a health facility in the area.

Efforts to reach the Benue State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Peter Aondongu, for comments were unsuccessful.

The attack adds to the recurring security concerns in Logo LGA, where communities have experienced deadly attacks in recent months.
