Three siblings transporting their late mother’s remains from Abuja to Benue State have been abducted by suspected armed herdsmen along the Ogobia–Otukpo Road in Ohimini Local Government Area.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Saturday between Omutele and Ankpechi communities. The victims were en route to their hometown, Iklenyi in Okpokwu LGA, for burial.
According to a source, the family’s journey was delayed after their vehicle broke down, forcing them to continue travelling around 2 a.m. They maintained contact with relatives until reaching the affected road, where they were allegedly ambushed.
“The armed men abducted the three siblings and took their mother’s corpse into the bush,” the source said, adding that the victims are still being held.
Local authorities have confirmed receiving reports of the incident. The Chairman of Ohimini LGA, Gabriel Adole, said he is heading to the area to gather more details.
Police authorities in Benue were unavailable for comment at the time of reporting.
The incident has sparked outrage, with calls for urgent security intervention to rescue the victims and recover the remains.
