Katsina State Governor and Chairman of the Northwest Governors’ Forum, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, has presented the Northwest Peace, Security, and Development Framework 2026–2030 at a high-level side event on the margins of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The event, themed “Seven States, One Ambition,” brought together the seven Northwest governors, UN officials, development partners, investors, and private-sector leaders to discuss regional security, resilience, and economic development.
Governor Radda said insecurity remains a major challenge in the region and requires a coordinated response from the seven states, including stronger collaboration and intelligence sharing.
The UNDP-supported framework was adopted by the seven governors in March 2026 after consultations with governments, communities, civil society groups, women, and young people. It aims to address insecurity and its underlying causes while attracting investment and creating jobs.
Priority areas under the framework include agriculture and livestock, renewable energy, infrastructure, digital innovation, human capital, social services, and enterprise development. The governors are seeking international partnerships, development financing, and responsible private investment to implement the plan.
UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed commended the Northwest governors for adopting a common regional framework, noting that lasting stability requires development alongside security efforts.
