Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has signed the state’s ₦1.84 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law.
Fubara assented to the bill on Thursday at the Government House in Port Harcourt, describing the budget as a “breath of fresh air” and expressing optimism that it would usher in a new phase of development and cooperation in the state.
The governor pledged a cordial working relationship with the Rivers State House of Assembly and thanked the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his role in facilitating developments leading to the budget’s passage.
The Assembly had earlier passed the budget, christened the “Budget of Resilience for Growth and Development”, after making adjustments to Fubara’s original ₦1.854 trillion proposal.
Lawmakers stepped down the proposed ₦6 billion allocation to PAMO University of Medical Sciences over concerns about accountability and redirected part of the funds to the State Primary Healthcare Development Board.
The Assembly said the changes were made to ensure transparency and effective use of public funds.
