First Aircraft Touches Down at Zamfara International Airport in 30 Years

The maiden flight at Gusau International Airport was received by Governor Dauda Lawal on Sunday, marking a historic milestone for Zamfara State, which has operated without a functional airport for over three decades.

According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the test flight conducted by the Federal Government of Nigeria landed at exactly 4:30 p.m. The exercise involved a Bombardier Challenger 605 aircraft, deployed for a one-time assessment of the airport’s readiness ahead of scheduled VIP movements next week.

Describing the development as significant, Governor Lawal noted that the day would be remembered in the history of the state as he witnessed the successful landing of the first aircraft at the facility.

The statement further disclosed that the aircraft, bearing registration number 5N-FGZ, carried out the evaluation to determine the airport’s operational capacity for the upcoming high-profile visits.
