The Federal Government has ruled out negotiating with terrorists, insisting that they must be decisively defeated.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, stated this on the sidelines of the 21st Extraordinary Session of the African Union Assembly in Luanda, Angola.
She said Nigeria’s position was clear: terrorists could not be persuaded through negotiation or mediation.
“The only language terrorists understand is the language of defeat,” Ojukwu said.
She added that Nigeria was committed to a firm approach in its fight against terrorism, with Vice-President Kashim Shettima representing President Bola Tinubu at the summit.
The AU meeting focused on strengthening conflict prevention and resolution mechanisms, as well as improving Africa’s response to terrorism and violent extremism.
