The Federal Government has approved the payment of outstanding debts owed to more than 1,240 contractors, offering relief after months of complaints over delayed settlements.

The development was disclosed on Monday in a statement by the spokesperson for the Federal Ministry of Finance, Mary-Ann Duke.
According to the ministry, the payments were approved following an extensive verification and reconciliation exercise aimed at confirming genuine outstanding obligations.
The government said contractors owed less than N100 million will be given priority in the payment process.
The move comes amid growing pressure from contractors who have repeatedly demanded the settlement of debts reportedly running into trillions of naira.
Since 2024, affected contractors have staged several protests over the non-payment of their claims, with some demonstrations taking place at the Ministry of Finance headquarters in Abuja.
Officials say the latest approval is part of efforts to clear verified liabilities and ease concerns among contractors awaiting payment for completed projects.
