A farmer identified as Yakubu Bitrus has reportedly lost one of his hands after he was allegedly attacked by suspected herders in Agingi community, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Bitrus, who narrated his ordeal in a video while receiving treatment in hospital, said the incident occurred after he declined a request from a herder to help rescue a cow that had fallen into a ditch.
According to him, he was working on his farm with two women when the herder approached them and asked for assistance. Bitrus said he advised the herder to seek help from other farmers because he was the only man in the group.
He alleged that the herder became hostile, chased him with a stick and cutlass, and later hid with other men after Bitrus returned with a larger group to assist.
Bitrus said the attackers later ambushed him and his wife while they were returning from the farm.
He alleged that the men attacked his wife before turning on him. During the struggle, he said one of the attackers used a machete to sever his hand before the group fled into the bush.
The incident has not yet been independently confirmed by the police.
