Eight players from the Katsina State Football Academy have departed Nigeria for a one-month training camp with FC Torpedo-BelAZ Zhodino in Belarus.
The players were selected from the second edition of the Malam Dikko Umaru Radda Football Scouting Tournament, held in Katsina from May 29 to June 4, 2026.
The tournament was organized by the Katsina Football Academy in partnership with the Belarusian club to identify promising young footballers and create pathways to professional football in Europe. International scouts were present during the competition to assess the players.
Chairman of the Katsina State Football Academy, Ahmed Mohammed, said the initiative was driven by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s investment in grassroots sports and youth development.
He said some of the players could earn professional contracts with FC Torpedo-BelAZ Zhodino if they impress during the training camp.
Among the players in Batch A are Abdullahi Aliyu, 18; Alhassan Muhammad Shariff, 18; and Ismail Nuhu, 20.
Mohammed said the remaining players in Batch A, alongside four players in Batch B, are expected to join the camp in Minsk soon.
He added that the international training program is designed to expose Katsina’s young talents to professional football structures while creating opportunities for them to build careers abroad.
