Former Super Eagles head coach Augustine “Cerezo” Eguavoen has been appointed interim coach of the Super Falcons ahead of Nigeria’s 2028 Olympic qualifying campaign.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed the appointment on Tuesday, saying Eguavoen will lead the team in their second-round qualifier against Comoros in October while the search for a permanent coach continues.
Eguavoen will be assisted by Nasarawa Amazons coach Christopher Danjuma, former Super Falcons defender Ayisat Yusuf, and goalkeeper trainer Olatunji Baruwa.
Eguavoen previously guided the Super Eagles to a bronze medal at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. Yusuf, who earned 68 caps for Nigeria, also represented the country at the 2008 Olympic Games.
Nigeria will face Comoros in a two-legged tie at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne-Remo, on October 9 and 13.
The Super Falcons received a bye into the second round as one of the three highest-ranked teams in the qualifiers, while Comoros advanced after a 30-0 aggregate win over Sudan.
Nigeria must progress through four rounds of two-legged ties to claim one of Africa’s two places at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
If they defeat Comoros, the Falcons will face either Morocco or the Democratic Republic of Congo in the third round in February/March 2027.
