The Federal Government has confirmed a case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, and identified 44 close contacts as authorities move to prevent further spread.

The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, announced the confirmation on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
The patient, a woman who recently arrived in Nigeria on an international flight from Uganda, tested positive after spending several days receiving treatment at a private hospital in the FCT. She is currently isolated and receiving medical care.
The 44 contacts identified so far include healthcare workers, patients, caregivers and people linked to her travel. Contact tracing is ongoing.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) is working with FCT health authorities to contain the infection.
The government has urged Nigerians to remain calm, practise regular hand hygiene and report suspected cases or exposures to health authorities. The NCDC’s toll-free line, 6232, is available for enquiries and suspected case reports.
