Dozens Killed in Fresh Attack on Kaduna Border Community

At least 30 people, including eight children, were killed when gunmen attacked Naridon village in Kamaru Ward of Kauru Local Government Area, Kaduna State, late Sunday.

Residents said the assailants stormed the border community, located near Ganawuri in Plateau State, around 11 p.m., shooting indiscriminately and setting homes and businesses ablaze. Several others were injured, with some in critical condition.

A local official, Dogon Rana, confirmed the death toll on Monday, warning it could rise due to the severity of injuries. He described the attack as devastating, noting that entire families were wiped out and properties worth millions of naira destroyed.

One resident said the violence lasted about three hours without intervention from nearby security forces, alleging that personnel stationed less than two kilometres away did not respond in time.

Community members also blamed poor road access for the high casualty figure, saying it delayed escape and emergency response.

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani condemned the attack and ordered security agencies to track down those responsible. He also directed emergency officials to provide relief to affected families and pledged stronger collaboration with neighboring Plateau State to secure border communities.

Political leaders, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and PDP governorship candidate Usman Bawa, also denounced the killings. They called for increased security presence, a full investigation, and urgent support for victims.

The incident has renewed concerns over persistent insecurity in Southern Kaduna and surrounding border areas, where communities continue to face recurring attacks linked to armed groups and local conflicts.
