D’banj Rings London Stock Exchange Closing Bell in Historic First

Nigerian music star Oladapo Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj, has made history as the first Nigerian entertainer to ring the closing bell at the London Stock Exchange.

D’banj announced the milestone on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, noting that the honor came during celebrations marking the 125th anniversary of the Royal African Society in London.

He described the moment as historic and shared photos from the event, which brought together prominent figures, including St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Terrance Michael Drew and Afreximbank President Prof. Benedict Oramah.

The London Stock Exchange regularly hosts opening and closing bell ceremonies to commemorate major milestones, partnerships, and anniversaries. The Royal African Society, founded in 1901, is one of the UK’s oldest institutions dedicated to promoting Africa through culture, education, policy, and business engagement.
