Nigerian Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that he sought advice from Wizkid and Wande Coal when he was considering leaving school to pursue music.
Davido made the disclosure in the Afrobeats Documentary, saying he asked the two artists how they managed to leave school and focus on music.
According to the singer, Wizkid and Wande Coal told him that he needed to become successful in music before abandoning his education.
“I asked Wizkid and Wande Coal how they left school to do music. They told me the only way was to blow up,” Davido said.
He said he knew his father, businessman Adedeji Adeleke, would not approve of him leaving school. However, after his 2011 hit single “Dami Duro” became successful, he said he could no longer continue with his studies at the time.
Davido had initially studied Business Administration at Oakwood University in Alabama, United States, before returning to Nigeria to pursue music. He later enrolled at Babcock University after reaching an arrangement with his father that allowed him to continue making music while completing his education.
He graduated from Babcock University in 2015 with a degree in Music. His rise to prominence followed the release of “Dami Duro,” the second single from his debut album, Omo Baba Olowo.
