Dangote Petroleum Refinery has maintained its position as Europe’s largest jet fuel supplier for a second consecutive month, reinforcing Nigeria’s growing influence in global energy markets.
Data from commodities intelligence firm Kpler show the refinery exported over 400,000 tonnes of jet fuel to Europe in July, accounting for about 20% of the continent’s imports. This follows a record 466,000 tonnes in June, when Nigeria first overtook the United States as Europe’s top supplier.
Europe imported roughly 2.06 million tonnes of jet fuel in July, with Dangote supplying the largest share ahead of traditional exporters in the US and Middle East.
Analysts say the refinery is reshaping fuel trade flows in the Atlantic Basin, as European buyers increasingly diversify supply sources amid disruptions linked to geopolitical tensions and reduced Middle Eastern exports.
The refinery’s rise has been driven by strong production capacity and its strategic Atlantic location, enabling competitive exports to Europe. Since starting operations, it has rapidly scaled output, becoming a key alternative supplier in a tight global jet fuel market.
Industry experts note that Dangote’s growing exports of jet fuel, alongside diesel and gasoline, are strengthening Nigeria’s position as a net exporter of refined petroleum products.
