CIS conference to focus on funding infrastructure, manufacturing

Nigeria’s policymakers, investors and financial market leaders will meet in Lagos on November 4 and 5 for the 30th Annual Conference of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS), with discussions focused on mobilizing long-term funding for infrastructure, manufacturing and small businesses.

The conference, themed “From Capital Mobilized to Prosperity Realised: Financing Nigeria’s Next Era of Growth and Global Competitiveness,” will examine how the capital market can convert funds raised into productive investments, job creation and economic growth.

CIS President, Dr Fiona Ahimie, said Nigeria must move beyond raising capital to ensuring that funds are invested in ways that expand businesses, create jobs and strengthen the economy.

She added that the country needs an innovative, inclusive and competitive capital market capable of attracting domestic and foreign investment.

Conference Committee Chairman, Saheed Bashir, said the event would bring together stakeholders to develop practical solutions to Nigeria’s financing challenges.

He said discussions would cover capital market development, technology, regulation and funding for the real economy.

A key session, titled “Financing Productive Investments in the Real Economy: Spotlight on Infrastructure, Manufacturing, and SMEs,” will explore ways to improve access to long-term funding for businesses and infrastructure projects.

The discussions will also examine how the capital market can complement bank lending by connecting businesses with institutional investors and other sources of long-term finance.
