Todd Boehly has stepped down as chairman of Chelsea after selling his stake in the club to majority owner Clearlake Capital, which has now taken full control of the Premier League side.

Boehly and fellow director Mark Walter sold their combined stake, allowing Clearlake to increase its ownership from 61.5% to 86.5%, while Swiss investor Hansjörg Wyss retains a 13.5% stake. The deal values Chelsea at about £5 billion and is reportedly worth around £950 million.
Boehly became Chelsea chairman in 2022 after the consortium led by Clearlake and Boehly acquired the club from Roman Abramovich.
In a statement, Boehly said it had been an “honour” to serve as chairman and expressed confidence in Chelsea’s future under Clearlake’s leadership.
Clearlake co-founders Behdad Eghbali and José E. Feliciano thanked Boehly for his contribution, saying he would remain “a part of the Chelsea story and family.”
Chelsea said the ownership change would not affect the club’s day-to-day operations, leadership, or strategy. The club said Clearlake would continue investing in its infrastructure, sporting performance, and player development.
Boehly and Walter had been involved in discussions over the ownership structure amid reported disagreements within the consortium, including over Stamford Bridge redevelopment plans.
Under the ownership group since 2022, Chelsea won the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup, while their highest Premier League finish was fourth in the 2024-25 season. The club finished 10th last season and appointed Xabi Alonso as manager in the summer.
