Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has pledged land and logistical support for the establishment of the Nigerian Army’s newly approved 5 Division headquarters in Makurdi.

Alia made the commitment on Tuesday while receiving a delegation from the Army Headquarters Implementation Committee at the Government House in Makurdi.
He described the new military formation as a major boost to security in the state, expressing confidence that it would strengthen operations and restore public confidence amid persistent security challenges.
The governor assured that his administration would provide all necessary support to ensure a smooth take-off of the division and other approved military units.
President Bola Tinubu recently approved the expansion of the Nigerian Army from eight to 12 divisions, with Makurdi designated as the headquarters of the 5 Division covering Benue, Nasarawa, and Kogi states.
Alia thanked the President and military leadership for locating the division in Benue, noting that residents had long called for increased military presence.
The Army team, led by Major General Raymond Utsaha, visited the state to begin implementation of the new formations. The pioneer General Officer Commanding of the 5 Division, Major General M.K. Gara, was also part of the delegation.
The visit is expected to fast-track the operational launch of the division and enhance security coordination in the North-Central region.
