Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has launched a nationwide grassroots mobilization campaign aimed at securing 20 million votes ahead of the 2027 presidential election under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Atiku, who recently emerged as the ADC’s presidential candidate for 2027, formally inaugurated state coordinators of the RiseUpNaija Movement in Abuja on Saturday, signalling a shift from coalition-building to full-scale campaign mobilization.
The movement, which draws members from major political parties, including the APC, PDP, Labour Party, and NNPP, plans to build structures from the national level down to polling units across the country.
Speaking at the event, Atiku urged young Nigerians to reject vote-buying and actively participate in the electoral process, stressing that credible leadership and strong institutions remain central to his ambition.
He described youth as Nigeria’s greatest asset but said poor leadership had limited their opportunities, warning that continued voter apathy could undermine democratic progress.
Convener of the movement, Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, said the group aims to register at least 100 members in each of Nigeria’s roughly 176,000 polling units, translating to over 17 million grassroots supporters nationwide.
He added that coordinators have been tasked with expanding membership and building a strong nationwide network to support the ADC candidate in 2027.
The campaign push comes amid growing political realignments following Atiku’s emergence as the ADC flagbearer, positioning the party as a key opposition force ahead of the next general election.
