Atiku Names Kenneth Okonkwo as Spokesperson Ahead of 2027 Election

Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate for the 2027 election, Atiku Abubakar, has appointed actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo as his spokesperson.

Okonkwo announced the development on Thursday via his official X account, expressing gratitude to Atiku for the appointment and the confidence placed in him.

He described the role as a reflection of Atiku’s leadership style, noting that the former vice president prioritizes dialogue, inclusiveness, and consensus-building in addressing internal party concerns.

According to Okonkwo, recent discussions with Atiku and other ADC stakeholders addressed key issues, including the political interests of the South-East within the framework of the Electoral Act, 2026, and current political realities.

He also acknowledged the contributions of party leaders and allies in strengthening the ADC ahead of the 2027 general election, while thanking his family, supporters, and associates for their continued support.

The appointment comes weeks after Okonkwo publicly criticized the party’s vice-presidential considerations, warning against further marginalization of the South-East.

Despite the concerns, the ADC later named former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as Atiku’s running mate following his emergence as the party’s presidential candidate.
